V&S Danmark transfers production from Dalby to Aalborg

January 10, 2005 08:00 GMT

V&S Danmark (formerly De Danske Spritfabrikker) has decided to carry out restructuring, which will affect the production units in Dalby and Aalborg. As a result of the changes, production in Dalby will close down and be moved to Aalborg.

“The decision to concentrate production in Aalborg is right and necessary,” says V&S Danmark’s President, Hans Christian Pape.

“We have assessed our production structure, which to date has been spread over a large area. By concentrating production in Aalborg and the bottling functions in Svendborg, we are creating two strong competence centres. This will help improve the operation’s profitability and efficiency, and thereby secure V&S Danmark’s competitiveness.”

The relocation of production will take place gradually until summer 2006 and will result in around 40 redundancies in Dalby. Workforce reductions will be implemented gradually until final closure of the factory in Dalby in 2006.

A number of new positions in Aalborg are expected to be created – it is not yet clear how many, but probably around 10-15.

Hans Christian Pape regrets the redundancies resulting from the restructuring work, but emphasises that the greatest possible consideration will be taken of the co-workers affected.

“We’re obviously not happy about the human costs resulting from the restructuring, and we will do our best to help our co-workers in Dalby find new employment,” stresses Hans Christian Pape.

The restructuring will lead to the transfer of spirit and berry wine production from Dalby to Aalborg, where snaps and vodka are currently produced. The company has gathered most functions related to bottling in Svendborg in 2003 and 2004.

In connection with the expansion of production in Aalborg, V&S Danmark has acquired the adjoining property, where Estrella produced potato crisps until 2004.
